Stripe

Stripe

The default payment processor for internet businesses.

Meine Erfahrung

Stripe is my go-to payment processor. The API is best-in-class — the documentation alone saves days of development time. I've used it for subscriptions, one-time payments, and even invoicing.

The main gotcha for indie developers is the business entity requirement. If you're a solo dev without a registered company, you'll need to set one up first. Also, you're responsible for handling tax compliance in each market you sell to.

If you need someone to handle taxes for you, look at Paddle or Lemon Squeezy instead — they act as a Merchant of Record.

Vorteile

  • +Excellent API documentation and developer experience
  • +Supports 135+ currencies and dozens of payment methods
  • +Great dashboard for managing subscriptions and revenue

Nachteile

  • Requires a registered business entity in supported countries
  • Complex tax compliance — you handle VAT/GST yourself
  • Account setup can be slow for non-US entities

Ideal fur

Developers who want full control over their payment integration and have a registered business.
